  • Garter Yoke Cardi..

    Garter yoke detail1
Look who's hanging out in the lab this morning!  She's had a bath and is (lounging) stretched out on drying screens, under the glare of color corrected lighting.  I'd say that those shadows still look pretty blue.

The ends have been woven in and that little glitch, thanks Kim, I think your solution worked out pretty well.

    Next up, the buttons.

    1. That’s so pretty! Gah, I wish I could break out of my color rut!

    2. That green is making me swoon! I love all shades of green, which is why I think it’s odd that everything I knit lately is purple…
      What kind of buttons?

    3. Just gorgeous! Perfect for spring/late winter too!

    4. I love that green!

    5. That is beautiful! Can’t wait for the modeled shot.
I reely reely need to start a sweater.

    6. Nothin like a bath and a little lounging!
She looks lovely –those shade of color!
      Rich and true 😉

    9. Oh, how pretty!!

    10. I love it! I want to make one out of hand-dyed yarn as well.

    11. Love the green! I’m a little worried about the fit of mine….which is about 1/3 done now.

  • NETA SPA 2009, a thank you note.

Whew!  Another year has whizzed by, another SPA come and gone.  This year was the best ever.  I can't begin to thank the organizers and divas enough for all the hard work they do, all the planning and scheduling.  For a weekend that started out as an easy getaway, it is now anything but for those "in charge".  From a vendor's stand point, everything had been worked out ahead of time, making it a very enjoyable experience.  When it came time to suggest what we'd like to see changed for the next year, I couldn't think of anything.

Getting ready for a show, especially when you have 'other' jobs, is all consuming.  I got pretty close to finishing my Garter Yoke cardi in time to wear, just not close enough.  Two inches, that's all that is left on the second sleeve.  Saturday night, I was nearing the bind off when I saw that I'd knitted a purl row.  Sunday morning with coffee I ripped back.

With a nor'easter on the way, everyone headed for home early on Sunday.  That's New England in winter, it held just long enough.  I missed hanging out in the afternoon after packing up.  Turned out to be a good thing.  I was able to get home (with a stop at Costco) before dark and still had enough energy to unload.  Lucky, I tell you.   Everything was unpacked before the nearly foot of heavy snow fell.

SPA is really about spending time with fiber friends.
To all of you who stopped by to lend a hand, say "hi", or bring your beautiful projects to show me, I say thanks.  It wouldn't be SPA without you.

oh… it has been SO long since I posted, I forgot.

The pork livers… they're for my cats.

    1. Our time together was way too short this year!

    2. Ah, that roving is gorgeous!

    3. Loved seeing you this weekend!

    4. Everyone had a such a good time! Your ‘goods’ look so nice. If only I’d been there…;-)

    5. Oh, that emerald green alpaca/merino/silk of yours that Kim bought for me – it’s to die for! Lovely, lovely stuff to spin. I’m glad you had a good time at SPA; I certainly did!

    6. Beautiful offerings! Your SPA shop looks so inviting!
Great to have a post from you~ (shhh don’t let my kitty know you cook for yours….)

    7. It was great to see you again! And of course, shop in your booth. Not sure which is calling louder: the roving or skein winder. Fortunately, I don’t have to choose. 🙂

    8. So much fun, but, yes, too short. It is a slice out of time for us.
We got 15″ of light stuff. Spent free time in the next two days shoveling…shoveling….

    9. Your booth was gorgeous! Glad I headed home early but next year I’ll plan to stay longer. Looking forward to the worsted your planning, maybe CTS&W? Let me know.

  • winter days

After the snow there was freezing rain.  It continued into the third part of a winter trifecta, hours of hard rain that froze onto every surface that had been cleared of snow.  By morning the walks and drive were thick with ice, an impenetrable, slippery menace.  Getting the car UP the drive was impossible.   The ten feet I managed were given back as the car slid back down from its stalled position.  Scary.  Nothing to do but wait to see where it would stop.   I'm not a wimp when it comes to weather, but I really hate moving around on ice.  Good that there were so many indoor things to do.  Laundry.  Dyeing.  Office catch up.  Phone calls.

    Hello, this is xxx market.
me: Hi, Can you connect me to the butcher, please.
    Just a minute.

    Meat department.
me: Hi, I'd like to order some pork livers.
Oh, you must be the pork liver lady.
me: er..mm.. I guess I am.  Yep, I'm the pork liver lady.
    Where's the pork liver guy?

me: The pork liver guy,  uummmm….. he's busy.  Can I order the pork livers?
Sure, but he usually calls, and you come by and get them.

Nothing like a reputation, is there?

Looks like today will be more of yesterday.  Cold icy days moving from one to the next.  Good thing that the dyeing part is fun.  It gets squeezed into the in between, the cracks of time, making everything else feel a little brighter.

    1. Your post totally made me crack up!!
      Thanks.

    2. So what do you do with all those pork livers anyway?

    3. Ewwww – pork livers! Thank goodness you posted some pretty roving! :o)

    4. You could be remembered for far worse than pork livers.
      Gorgeous roving!

    5. HA!
I’m laughing at this post, and echoing what everyone else said 🙂
Pork Liver Lady…that is a good one!

    6. Kim

And what, pray tell, do you do with the pork livers? (I imagine they’re edible, just like beef liver, but I’ve never heard of anyone using them before.)

    7. Yeah, there are worse things than being the pork liver lady…
Love the colors in that roving!
(And you definitely have to tell us what you’re doing with all those pork livers.)

    8. I’m with everyone else, the pork livers for…? Love the previous video.

    9. I’ll guess the cats love pork liver.

    10. Thanks for the spot of bright color. I find that the winter here has been a bit bleak. Then I think of winter where you are and try to buck up.

    11. Mmm, when we lived on Overlook Ave. in Summit, NJ (got the topographical references?)we couldn’t get up the driveway in icy conditions. The second winter I made a deal with another preschool mom who lived two blocks away on the plateau…in bad conditions we could park in her driveway and skate home.
      Thanks for invoking the memories!

    12. I buy chicken livers a lot for the dogs. People always look at me weird at the check out.

    13. I can’t even imagine trying to drive in those conditions. Your previous posts of all the ice is amazing. Your roving is really pretty and reminds me of summer mornings – fresh fruits – cantalopes and mangoes.

    14. I’m hoping you feed the pork livers to a four-legged member of your family… ;o)
