  • tequila or chocolate

    <>

That kind of day, I needed wanted something..  tequila or chocolate.  It was only 2pm so tea and chocolate won, but only by a couple hours.  I’ve been office bound for two days.  I finally packed it in last night around 11:30 ( yes, I am aware that I’ve already told you that I had taken a break to knit while sleeping in my chair) after having to explain to the propane company people that I was REALLY OUT of propane, and my house stunk and the heat in the plant room was OFF.  But, that was last night.  I had the same conversation with another representative of the SAME company at 7:30 am this morning, (yes, still.. umm .. back again at my same desk) and what part of that was so hard to understand.   Must have been the part about AUTOMATIC delivery.  It sort of went downhill from there.  Heat’s on now, everyone is safe, and it’s Zach’s turn to sleep while sitting up while working in the office.

After seeing Cathy’s blog, I decided she was right…  I’d be interested in knowing what kind of book somebody out there would think I am.  So, maybe I need to reread this book…   ( I do agree, however,  completely with their description. ;))  Yep.. I’ve helped quite a number of people decide where to put their houses..  hmmmm again…  what is going on here?

    You’re Watership Down!
    by Richard Adams
Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you’re
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You’d
be recognized as such if you weren’t always talking about talking rabbits.

    1. I was just reminiscing last night about the time we didn’t get our ‘automatic’ oil delivery and were huddling around breathing out clouds of smoke during a freezing spell and the lady at the oil co. insisted ‘You still have 150 gallons left!’
      Btw, the sweater is great!

Zach’s twin lives at our house. Her name is Bitsy. 🙂

    4. Yeah, now that Su mentions it, Zach DOES look like a slim cat emerging from a fat fur muff. Funny!
I took the quiz and discovered I am “A Prayer for Owen Meany.” Now I have to read the book and see if that’s flattering or not. LOL.
I finished my Fuzzy Feet! Now I just have to photograph them and update Ye Olde Blog. Maybe while Keith is watching the Stupid Bowl…
Rant du jour — I HATE trying to get the kids out of the house on time for choir on Sunday mornings!!!!!!!

    5. You and Anne match… what a circle! Love the pic of Zach.

    6. Does everyone know that Zach had just stolen a few moments to think about your book choice too!

  • knitting in my dreams

IN my dreams, rather in my dream world, I knit the pattern as
written and all goes well. IN my wake a
do world I more frequently than not knit the pattern as written or at least my
preferred interpretation. Most of the time
it goes well. Last evening I spent quite
a lot of time reinterpreting ripping out the labors of my dream world. Plainly, I should not knit aran patterns in my
sleep. Plain stockinette might have gone
pretty well. After all, I didn’t drop
any stitches. I also didn’t’t wrap any
stitches, nor did I knit or purl in the correct sequence. I did, however, knit and purl nearly an
entire row at a time, in my sleep; waking or just dropping everything before
the rows end. I wonder if my eyes were
open..hmmmm. Believe me, it’s not worth
it.  I can only say, that until I can rest assured
that I can direct my dreams completely (and I’m not entirely void of that
talent, I am a lucid dreamer),  I will try to keep my knitting an activity to
do WIDE awake.  It will save me
time. I wonder how I’d do frogging in my
    dreams?

I’ve also noticed that my moss stitch doesn’t appear to pop
out in the same way that I see on OPB (other people’s blogs).  Here’s the measly update shot.

And see the pretty stick pin on top?   I found that at a resale shop the other day.  It didn’t say ‘stick pin’ to me.  It said ‘orifice hook’, just bend the tip up into a little hook and cut off the sharp tip.  Now that I have polished it up I’m having trouble making up my mind.

  • looking ahead and knitting back

By now, you probably know that Phil (the groundhog) saw his shadow and that we can expect six more weeks of winter.  Not that this should come as any surprise, do the math… It’s the 2nd day of February, when have you ever known winter to be OVER in New England before the middle of March.  In RI I’d say, April, in Vermont, hey, the snow melted out around my place May 9th last year, and later the year before.   Given that.. I’d say little Phil is doing us a favor.  Statistics show that he’s only been right 39% of the time, of course… and then there is the question…which Phil?  hmmmmm….

Tuesday night I worked on my MH sleeve using the spread shit sheet that I made earlier.  I found all (I think, this is vers.2) the mistakes I had made, like not noticing that the pattern had a 26 row repeat.  Small things, really.  I found them as soon as I got to the row to knit, so it did all make sense.  On my bureau In a file, I found a ‘key’ to some of the Aran stitch patterns used in this sweater.  I was saving it for something.. who knew?
The ‘Diamond‘  success, wealth, and treasure
The ‘Cable‘  the fisherman’s rope – safety and good luck when fishing
The ‘Irish Moss Stitch‘  a grateful symbol of the gift of the sea, Carrigeen moss which is harvested at the low tide
    Nice, huh?
Actually I was feeling pretty pleased with this project.  It seemed that there had been plenty of good omens. It had taken all of five minutes to decide to make this sweater after I saw the picture.  Cindy had the pattern handy, I had already bought the merino for something or other in the future and now everything was looking good.  So, last night I curled up in my chair with my knitting while C put a really terrible movie in the player.  My newly printed spread sheet was in front of me, I was clocking off the rows, and you know, it was wasn’t until I stopped to admire my progress that I saw the mistake.  Sixteen rows, four cable turns back, I had only three.  I missed one cable the other night, didn’t pick up on it then, and didn’t pick up on it until 16 rows later.  Sh#$!  I really didn’t want to rip all that out.  What did I have to lose, this was a perfect time to try ripping only the nine stitches involved with the cable back seventeen rows and work just those stitches back up.  I almost went to my office to grab the camera, it looked so awful when I had gotten it ripped back, yarn everywhere.  Perfect picture for the blog.  You were saved from that shot.  It just seemed prudent to stay put, not put anything down and not distract myself from the puzzle ahead.  It went along faster than I thought it would, and it did go faster than frogging and knitting all seventeen rows over again.  Finishing the second full pattern repeat will have to wait for tomorrow.
